Arizona Paycheck Calculator
Work out Arizona take-home pay from gross, pay frequency, filing status and pre-tax deductions. Federal and FICA are estimated for you; enter the AZ...
Estimate pay before Arizona state and local withholding, then enter the amount from current official state guidance.
Arizona state withholding is not calculated automatically. Enter the amount for this pay period from an official worksheet or genuine payroll record to include it; leave it blank to see pay before state withholding. You can enter a known local withholding amount separately. Federal withholding and FICA for one pay period are the only amounts calculated here; the Arizona figure is whatever you supply from an A-4-based payroll record or an official Department of Revenue worksheet, and a blank field means nothing was subtracted for Arizona. This calculator is an estimate workspace, not a payroll filing service. Verify every assumption with current official instructions.
The Arizona line this page leaves blank
Arizona income tax withholding is a percentage of gross taxable wages, the wage figure that meets the federal definition of wages, and the employee chooses that percentage on Form A-4, the withholding election published by the Arizona Department of Revenue. This calculator has no A-4 field and no Arizona percentage behind it, so it does not work out the state amount at all. To include it, type one pay period's Arizona withholding taken from an official department worksheet or from a genuine pay record. Left blank, the result carries a heading saying it is an estimate of pay before state withholding, not take-home pay.
Picking an Arizona amount you can defend
Take the Arizona figure from a single pay period, never a year-to-date column, and make sure it belongs to the same period as the gross pay entered above. Two things turn an older statement into the wrong source: a new A-4 percentage filed since it was issued, and a change in pre-tax items, because anything that lowers the federal wage figure also lowers the base the Arizona percentage is applied to. The state and local boxes reset when you change the pay frequency, so re-enter the figure that matches the new period. The Department of Revenue publishes the election form and the employer instructions behind it; check there rather than reverse-engineering a net figure.
Frequently asked questions
Does this calculator work out Arizona withholding from my A-4?
No. There is nowhere to enter an A-4 percentage and nothing here reads your election. The Arizona line stays out of the total until you type an amount for the pay period, taken from an official Arizona Department of Revenue worksheet or from a real pay record. Until you do, what you see is an estimate of pay before Arizona withholding, built from federal assumptions and FICA, not a payroll result your employer would produce.
My pay statement shows Arizona tax but I do not know my A-4 percentage. What do I enter?
The state field takes a dollar amount, not a percentage, so you do not need to know your election to fill it in. Copy the Arizona income tax line from a statement covering the same pay period as the gross pay above, or ask your payroll contact for it. Filing a new A-4 moves the figure from the payroll run that applies it onward, so a statement issued before that change is the wrong source.
