Oregon Paycheck Calculator

Work out Oregon take-home pay from gross, pay frequency, filing status and pre-tax deductions. Federal and FICA are estimated for you; enter the OR...

Estimate pay before Oregon state and local withholding, then enter the amount from current official state guidance.

Oregon state withholding is not calculated automatically. Enter the amount for this pay period from an official worksheet or genuine payroll record to include it; leave it blank to see pay before state withholding. You can enter a known local withholding amount separately. Federal withholding and FICA are estimated from your entries, while Oregon income tax, the statewide transit tax, your Workers' Benefit Fund share and Paid Leave Oregon contributions appear only when you enter them, and a Portland-area local tax belongs in the separate local field. This calculator is an estimate workspace, not a payroll filing service. Verify every assumption with current official instructions.

Several Oregon Lines, One Optional Box

An Oregon pay statement can carry more than income tax withholding: the statewide transit tax the employer withholds from wages, your half of the Workers' Benefit Fund assessment, and your Paid Leave Oregon contribution. This page offers one optional state field, so either total those lines for the same pay period and enter the sum once, or enter income tax withholding alone and read the rest as still missing. The assessment is the line nothing here can stand in for: it is charged against hours on the job, and this page never asks how many hours produced the gross amount you typed, so it has nothing to work from.

Form OR-W-4, the Formulas, and the Portland-Area Local Line

Oregon withholding runs off Form OR-W-4, the state's own withholding statement and exemption certificate, and the Department of Revenue issues two companion publications carrying the method itself, Withholding Tax Formulas (150-206-436) and Withholding Tax Tables (150-206-430), plus an online withholding calculator of its own. A filing status alone cannot reproduce any of that. Around Portland a further layer exists: the City of Portland Revenue Division administers Metro's supportive housing services tax and Multnomah County's Preschool for All tax. Employers withhold those only for employees earning above the annual level the programs set, or for anyone who opts in, so read your statement before assuming they apply. Where they do, the amount belongs in the local field.

Frequently asked questions

The result says pay before Oregon withholding. What do I add?

Take one pay statement covering the same period and read the state lines from it: income tax withholding, the statewide transit tax, your share of the Workers' Benefit Fund assessment, and your Paid Leave Oregon contribution. Total those into the state field once. Any Metro or Multnomah County amount goes in the local field instead. Do not also list the same amounts under other deductions, or they will be subtracted twice and the take-home figure will read low.

Why can't the Workers' Benefit Fund half be estimated here?

Because the input it needs was never collected. The assessment is charged per hour worked, and this page starts from a gross amount for one pay period without asking for an hours count, so any figure it printed on that line would be guesswork. Its rate is reviewed and set each year by the Department of Consumer and Business Services, and only the employee portion ever shows up among your deductions. Read that portion off your statement or the assessment booklet and fold it into the state field.
