Tennessee Paycheck Calculator

Work out Tennessee take-home pay from gross, pay frequency, filing status and pre-tax deductions, with documented federal and FICA assumptions. Tennessee...

Estimate take-home pay with documented 2026 federal assumptions; Tennessee does not impose an individual income tax on wages.

Tennessee does not impose an individual state income tax on wages. Federal payroll taxes and other state or local deductions may still apply. This is a federal estimate with no Tennessee income tax line to add, and it does not reflect your Form W-4 elections or anything your employer deducts by agreement. This calculator is an estimate workspace, not a payroll filing service. Verify every assumption with current official instructions.

The zero on the Tennessee line is the official answer

Pick Tennessee and the state line comes back at zero with a note rather than an input box. The Department of Revenue's guidance on income tax withholding, reference GEN-34, says that most state laws have employers withhold income tax for resident and nonresident employees, but Tennessee has no state income tax on earned income and therefore no withholding requirements. For an estimate that has one consequence worth stating: every income tax dollar shown here is federal. If the total looks wrong to you, the cause sits on the federal side or in deductions your employer takes, not in a missing Tennessee figure.

What the federal side of the estimate leaves out

The federal figure here is built from the gross pay, pay frequency and filing status you pick, the standard deduction and the published brackets. It does not read your Form W-4, so anything recorded there for a second job, dependents, other income or extra withholding is simply absent, and a real check can differ for that reason alone. Enter gross pay earlier this year so the Social Security ceiling and the higher-earner Medicare threshold land in the right place. The local withholding box stays outside the total until you type something into it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Tennessee take state income tax out of my paycheck?

Not out of earned income. The Department of Revenue's GEN-34 guidance states that Tennessee has no state income tax on earned income and therefore no withholding requirements, which is why this page reports a zero state line instead of asking you for one. Federal income tax and the two FICA lines still apply, and anything else that comes out, such as insurance or retirement, appears in this estimate only if you enter it in the deduction boxes.

The total here doesn't match my actual check. What am I missing?

Three things are missing. Retirement, insurance and similar amounts your employer takes out appear only if you enter them in the deduction boxes. Your Form W-4 is not read beyond filing status, so a second job, dependents or extra withholding you asked for are absent. And pay already received this year decides where the Social Security cap and the higher-earner Medicare threshold fall, so leaving that box at zero can push the Social Security line too high and the Medicare line too low.
