Why a Nevada Stub Has No State Tax Line

No state withholding line belongs on a stub here. The Department of Taxation is explicit that Nevada does not impose a state income tax on individuals and does not take part in administering federal income tax, and that residents pay no state tax on income earned from salaries, wages or similar compensation. Payroll is still taxed, but at the business rather than the worker. The Modified Business Tax reaches every employer subject to the state's Unemployment Compensation Law, and is figured on total gross wages less the employee health care benefits the employer paid. Non-profits, Indian tribes, political subdivisions and households employing only domestic workers sit outside it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Nevada require an itemized pay stub?

Employers must give you an itemized list of deductions at the time you are paid, under NRS 608.110. That statute covers deductions specifically, not a full breakdown of gross pay and hours. For those, NRS 608.115 requires your employer to maintain wage records each pay period — gross wage, deductions you authorized in writing, net cash wage, daily hours, and the payment date — and NAC 608.140 gives you ten days to receive them once you ask.

How often must Nevada employers pay wages?

NRS 608.060 makes wages in private employment due semimonthly. Wages earned and unpaid before the first day of a month are due by 8 a.m. on the fifteenth of the following month; wages earned and unpaid before the sixteenth are due by 8 a.m. on the last day of that same month. On separation, wages are immediately due when an employer discharges you, and within seven days or by the next regular payday, whichever is earlier, when you quit.

Is a generated draft an employer-issued pay statement in Nevada?

No. A generated draft can help organize genuine payroll information, but it does not verify employment or income and does not replace a statement issued by an employer or payroll provider.

Where should I verify Nevada payroll deductions?

Check the current instructions from the IRS and the relevant Nevada tax and labor agencies. The calculator provides estimates from the information entered; local taxes, special programs, filing status, and payroll circumstances can change the result.

What records should an independent contractor keep in Nevada?

Keep invoices, contracts, platform payout statements, bank records, expense records, and Forms 1099 when applicable. A personal earnings draft can support reconciliation, but it should not be presented as an employer-issued pay statement.
