Payroll tools and source-backed guidance
Delaware Paycheck Calculator

Estimate pay before Delaware state and local withholding, then enter the amount from current official state guidance.
Delaware state withholding is not calculated automatically. Enter the amount for this pay period from an official worksheet or genuine payroll record to include it; leave it blank to see pay before state withholding. You can enter a known local withholding amount separately. This page estimates federal withholding and FICA from what you enter; Delaware income tax withholding is included only when you supply it, and any Wilmington city wage tax belongs in the separate local field rather than in the state one. This calculator is an estimate workspace, not a payroll filing service. Verify every assumption with current official instructions.
Two Accepted Ways to Reach the Delaware Amount
Delaware withholding is not computed here, and employers have a choice of method. The Division of Revenue's employer guide sets out a wage-bracket table read by payroll period and allowance count, and an annualized alternative that grosses the period up to a full year, applies the standard deduction and the rate schedule, subtracts exemption credits, then divides back across the payroll periods. Your employer follows one of them. Take the amount your own payroll produced for the same period and enter it, or work one out from the guide before comparing.
Where the Work Was Performed Changes the Answer
Two Delaware questions turn on geography, and this page asks neither. Non-residents are taxed on compensation for services performed in the state, and Form W-4NR computes withholding on a Delaware-source fraction rather than on the whole check. Wilmington runs its own earned income tax with employers acting as withholding agents; for a non-resident based in the city, taxable earnings are apportioned by days worked inside the city over total days worked, and days spent working from home count as outside only where the employer required the work to be done there. A city amount goes in the local field, read from payroll.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the local field matter in Delaware?
Because a city tax can sit on top of the state line, and nothing here can reach it. Wilmington's earned income tax comes out at source, and what a non-resident owes turns on where the work was physically performed, a question no field on this page asks: the calculator sees a gross amount and a pay frequency and nothing else. Copy the city figure from your own statement into the local field, and keep it out of the state box so it is not subtracted twice.
Which withholding certificate does Delaware use?
Whichever one your employer keeps on file, and it is the allowance count written on that certificate, not the filing status you picked here, that drives the table lookup. This page asks for no allowances and no certificate, so the federal number it shows is a plain standard-deduction estimate and the Delaware line stays empty until you type one in. If you want the withheld amount changed, that happens on the certificate with your employer; changing anything here changes only what the estimate prints.
